THE FIRE RING PROCESS FOR THE 5.9L CUMMINS WAS DEVELOPED HERE AT HAISLEY MACHINE BY VAN & CURT HAISLEY IN 2002-2003. WE STARTED SELLING TO THE PUBLIC IN JULY 2003 AFTER MANY MONTHS OF R&D AND OVER $20K DOLLARS IN PARTS ALONE TO FIND A SYSTEM THAT WORKED THE BEST.
OUR ORIGINAL GOAL WAS TO FIND A WAY TO SEAL THE HEAD WITHOUT CUTTING GROOVES IN THE HEAD OR BLOCK. HINCE, LESS MONEY FOR THE END USER. AFTER TRYING "C" RINGS, "D" RINGS, GAS FILLED RINGS, ETC, WE DECIDED THAT THIS WAS THE BEST ROUTE TO GO. CURT CALLED IT AFTER THE 11TH TIME OF PULLING THE HEAD ON HIS TRUCK!
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS ARE INCLUDED WITH THE PURCHASE OF OUR FIRE RING & HEAD GASKET KIT.
MILD STEEL FIRE RINGS ARE IN STOCK IN THE FOLLOWING WIRE SIZES: .105 OR .118 AND IN THE FOLLOWING OUTSIDE DIAMETERS: 4.500, 4.550 & 4.560.
IF YOU ARE STARTING WITH BLANK SURFACES, WE RECOMMEND 4.550 FOR EASE OF INSTALLATION WHEN ONLY CUTTING ONE SURFACE. EASIER TO CENTER THE RINGS IN THE GASKET. WE CUT A RADIUSED (ROUND BOTTOM) 4.550 GROOVE HERE WHENEVER POSSIBLE.
THE SIZE YOU NEED IS DEPENDENT ON WHETHER OR NOT YOU ALREADY HAVE GROOVES CUT IN EITHER YOUR BLOCK OR YOUR HEAD.
CUSTOM SIZES ARE AVAILABLE IN ANY SIZE UPON REQUEST, WITH AN 18 RING MINIMUM.
HEAD GASKETS ARE AVAILABLE FOR THE 12V CUMMINS IN STANDARD, +.010 & +.020 THICKNESS AND IN STANDARD THICKNESS ONLY FOR THE 24V. COMMON RAIL ENGINES NEED TO USE THE 24V STD GASKET.
